Acquisition of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation

In its role as a full-capacity Regional Instrument Centre, RIC Tsukuba requires ISO/IEC 17025 (an international standard for calibration laboratories) accreditation in order to fulfill the functions described in"WMO/RICs". The Center began preparations for certification in April 2011, and was accredited for temperature calibration services in 2012 then for pressure and humidity calibration services in 2013.

RIC Tsukuba's certificate of accreditation can be seen here. It shows initial ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for:
- Temperature (30 August 2012)
- Pressure (23 May 2013)
- Humidity (5 September 2013)

This certifies that the laboratory’s management system, calibration methods and technical competence meet all the relevant requirements.

The certificate, bearing the JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) accreditation symbol, assures traceability to National Measurement Standards as well as the laboratory's technical and operational competence. It is recognized worldwide based on mutual agreement with ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and APAC (Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation).
